KCG Launches Clean-up Campaign/清淨高雄美化市容

　The city government kicked off a "Clean-up and Beautify Kaohsiung" campaign hoping to shape up a fresh and bright landscape for the city.

　The campaign starts with planting flowers and plants on the central divides of major roads and removing TV cables to brighten roadways as well as straighten up the city's skyline.

　From May 1, representatives in each neighborhood will report and set cleanup deadlines for illegal posters, billboards, and banners on the street.

　Also starting from May 1, Bureau of Public Works will have to complete a survey on obsolete utility poles within a month's time. Following the survey, TaiPower will then remove all the obsolete utility poles to give Kaohsiung a clean sky.

　To protect the environment, city officials have registered as "environment inspectors." In addition, Mayor Hsieh calls on Kaohsiung citizens to take part in the campaign by deterring drivers from throwing beverage cans, cigarette butts and waste paper out of cars.

　Furthermore, the KCG has launched the construction of sharp-looking and multi-function bus shelters. The first stage of the construction work is scheduled to be finished by June 30 with the second stage aiming at improving waiting space and environment at bus stations set to begin on July 1.

　To encourage grassroots participation, the city government has set up a hotline for reporting practices that might undermine the beauty of the city. Citizens can dial 080066666 and officials from Environment Protection Bureau will handle the reported cases as soon as possible.

　　市府目前在各主要道路安全島上普植五顏六色的草花，令人眼睛為之一亮，再加上新聞處分區執行有線電視纜線拆除工作，讓高雄市的天際線不再雜亂，這是進一步改善市容的開始。

　　從5月1日起，各區里幹事加入了查報市容行列，針對里鄰之間違規張貼、懸掛之廣告、市招、看板及布條、旗幟等，都在查報範圍內，同時要求限期清除。

　　同樣從5月1日起，工務局必須在一個月內完成全市廢棄電線桿查報建檔工作，以便進一步協調台電公司立即展開清除全市廢棄電線桿，讓高雄市的天空更清新。

　　為加強環境保護，市府首長已率先加入環保稽查員行列，謝市長同時號召民眾共同參與這項維護家園環境的工作，以大眾的力量遏止那些開車時隨手從車窗丟出飲料罐、煙蒂、紙屑等垃圾，破壞市容的行為。此外，目前主要街道可看到設計相當亮麗且多功能的候車亭，這是市府第一期的「街道家俱」工程，預定6月30日前可完成，第二期工程自7月1日起展開，將全面改善候車空間及環境。
