Kaohsiung Fun Park: Kaohsiung Railway Workshop Transformed into a Playground

　Kaohsiung's newest family-friendly attraction, the Kaohsiung Fun Park（高雄親子遊樂園區）, is now officially open. The park features nearly 30 recreational and sports facilities, including climbing structures, slides, sand pits, balance bikes, and a pump track. Inside, the original high-ceilinged workshop structure has been preserved, allowing natural daylight and cross-ventilation to flow through the space. Combined with a cooling mist system, the park offers a refreshing, fun environment for visitors of all ages. Best of all, admission is free!

　It is hard to imagine that this lively playground was once one of southern Taiwan's most important railway maintenance facilities. The Kaohsiung Railway Workshop, known as the “train hospital,” relocated here in 1975 and, for decades, repaired trains and supported railway operations. Today, its industrial heritage and railway elements have been preserved and transformed into an urban park where history and recreation coexist.

　One of the park's highlights is the overhead crane rope nets, which were built from the original overhead crane structure that once lifted train carriages. Children can now safely climb them while enjoying a unique play experience. Other facilities include bouldering walls, a parkour course, a fun basketball court, a mini soccer field, themed slides, wooden stepping posts for younger children, and many other fun features designed to suit a wide range of age groups.

　Beyond the playground equipment, visitors can also enjoy a relaxing day exploring the well-preserved machinery and structures of the former railway workshop. By transforming an industrial heritage site into a family recreation destination, Kaohsiung has found a creative way to pass its urban history on to the next generation.

親子放電新地標！臺鐵高雄機廠變身遊樂園

　　高雄最新親子景點「高雄親子遊樂園區」正式開放，規劃近30項遊戲與運動設施，包括攀爬設施、滑梯、沙坑、滑步車及Pump Track等；室內保留挑高廠房結構，引入自然採光與穿堂風，搭配雲霧降溫系統，打造沁涼舒適的全齡遊憩空間，而且入園完全免費！
　　很難想像，這裡曾是臺灣南部最重要的鐵路維修基地。過去有「火車醫院」之稱的高雄機廠，自1975年遷建於此，數十年來負責修復列車、守護鐵路運行。如今保留機廠遺構與鐵道元素，轉型為一座融合歷史與休憩的城市公園。
　　園區亮點之一，是利用昔日吊掛火車車廂的天車結構打造而成的「天車雲朵網遊藝裝置」，讓孩童可在安全防護下於不同高度穿梭探索。此外，還設有抱石攀岩場、跑酷練習區、趣味籃球場、小小足球場，及適合幼童遊玩的主題溜滑梯、木跳樁等設施，滿足不同年齡層的遊戲需求。
　　除了盡情遊玩，保留下來的舊機廠構件也可放慢腳步欣賞。當工業遺產改造成親子樂園，高雄用創意將城市記憶延續到下一代。
